What you have before your eyes is an authentic  folding sewing box , often made of varnished wood, sometimes beautifully carved. A true must-have in mid-20th-century homes, it was  the essential tool  for sewing enthusiasts. With its ingenious compartments that unfold in a staircase, it kept everything in order: bobbins, needles, thimbles, scissors, buttons… a real treasure trove!

Back then, you mended a hem like you would breathe. There was no question of throwing away a garment at the slightest snag! And this box allowed you to have everything you needed at hand, whether for a quick mending or an entire afternoon of embroidery.
