On TikTok, Instagram, and even Facebook, some puzzles are taking on impressive proportions… Such is the case with this seemingly simplistic riddle, which nevertheless continues to confuse the majority of Internet users. So, will you be more perceptive than the others?
The puzzle that confuses brains
Here is the riddle in question:
« I have 6 eggs. I broke 2, fried 2, and ate 2. How many eggs do I have left? »
At first glance, it seems like a rush: 6 eggs, minus 2 broken, minus 2 fried, minus 2 eaten… There’s nothing left, right? Well… not so fast!
This answer is the most common, but it’s incorrect. And that’s the genius of this riddle: it plays on our reflexes and our tendency to count automatically.
The real logic behind this riddle
To understand the solution, you have to slow down and observe. It doesn’t have to be six different eggs that were cracked, fried, and then eaten.
Let’s imagine the scene:
- I break 2 eggs
- I fry these same 2 eggs
- Then I eat them
So, these are the same eggs that have undergone all these steps. These are not 6 different eggs, but 2 eggs used successively.
Result: of the 6 eggs initially, only 2 were used. This leaves 4 whole eggs.
