Why you should never squash a cockroach?

We’ve all encountered these unwanted insects that invade our homes. The immediate reaction? Squish them. But did you know that this method is not only useless, but can also pose a health risk? Find out why it’s best to avoid squishing them and what solutions to choose to get rid of them effectively.

Why shouldn’t you crush cockroaches?

When we spot a cockroach in our home, our first reaction is often to squash it. However, this technique is not effective and can even be problematic. Cockroaches have an extremely strong exoskeleton, capable of withstanding pressure 900 times their own weight. In other words, even after being squashed, they may survive and eventually escape from the trash can.

Additionally, when crushed, these insects release allergenic substances contained in their exoskeleton. These particles can cause allergic reactions such as  rhinitis  or  conjunctivitis  in sensitive individuals, especially children.

A hygiene and contamination problem

Crushing a cockroach also has another drawback: corpses attract their own kind. These insects feed on decaying organic matter, including the remains of their fellow creatures. Instead of limiting the infestation, you risk making it worse.

During a severe infestation, crushing can also release  stress pheromones . These substances alert other cockroaches to the danger and can cause them to hide further, making their eradication more difficult.
