From Bottle to Soil: How to Start Garlic in Water and Plant It in Your Garden

✅ Use organic garlic cloves (store-bought garlic may be treated to prevent sprouting).
✅ Pick firm, large cloves—they grow best!
✅ Avoid garlic that’s too old or dried out.

Step 2: Sprouting Garlic in Water

What You Need:

🥤 A clean bottle, jar, or glass
💧 Water (room temperature, non-chlorinated if possible)
🧄 Garlic cloves (separated, unpeeled)

📌 How to Do It:
1️⃣ Fill a small jar or bottle with about an inch of water.
2️⃣ Place garlic cloves root-side down so only the bottom touches the water.
3️⃣ Put the jar in a warm, sunny spot (like a windowsill).
4️⃣ Change the water every 2-3 days to prevent mold or bacteria.
5️⃣ In 5-7 days, green shoots and roots will start to appear.

💡 Once the roots reach about 1-2 inches, they’re ready for soil!

Step 3: Planting Garlic in Soil

What You Need:

🌿 Sprouted garlic cloves
🪴 A pot or garden bed with well-draining soil
🌞 A sunny location (6+ hours of sunlight daily)
💦 Watering can or spray bottle

📌 How to Plant Garlic Properly:
1️⃣ Prepare the soil – Use loose, well-draining soil with organic compost.
2️⃣ Make small holes – Space them 4-6 inches apart.
3️⃣ Plant sprouted garlic – Place cloves root-side down, covering with 1-2 inches of soil.
4️⃣ Water gently – Keep soil moist but not soggy.
5️⃣ Let it grow! Garlic takes 6-8 months to fully mature.
