Sugar-free pomegranate jam: delicious and super-healthy recipe

6-8 ripe pomegranates (about 1 kg of seeds)
1 large apple (preferably organic)
Juice of half a lemon
1 teaspoon of agar-agar (to thicken, optional)
Procedure
Pomegranate preparation
First, peel the pomegranates and remove the seeds. To make it easier, you can cut the pomegranate in half and immerse it in a bowl of water. This way, the beans will detach more easily from the white membrane, which can be bitter.
Once
you have the beans, put them in a blender or potato masher to extract the juice. If you prefer a smoother jam, strain the juice through a sieve to remove the seeds. If you like preserves with a rustic consistency, you can also leave the seeds behind.
Add the apple
Peel and cut the apple into small pieces. The apple is essential because, in addition to giving a natural sweetness to the jam, it helps to thicken the mixture thanks to the pectin it contains.
Cooking
Put the pomegranate juice and apple pieces in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the lemon juice, which is used to enhance the flavor and preserve the jam better.
Cook for about 30 to 40 minutes, stirring often. If you find that the jam is too runny, you can add a teaspoon of agar-agar dissolved in a little hot water and continue cooking for another 5 to 10 minutes, until it reaches the desired consistency.
Once
ready, pour the jam while still warm into sterilized glass jars, close them tightly and turn them over to create a vacuum. Let them cool completely before placing them in the pantry.
Sugar-free pomegranate jam is perfect for spreading on toast, adding to yogurt, or topping desserts. Thanks to the absence of added sugars, it is ideal for those who follow a healthy and balanced diet, without sacrificing taste.
