The holidays are in full swing, the sun is shining (or almost), and now a nice tax surprise is looming: an unexpected transfer from the government could well land in your bank account in the next few days. It could be enough to soften the price of ice cream at the beach or help you stock up on supplies to go see family… But are you really affected? And why this refund now? We’ll explain everything, without any hassle!
Why is the tax administration reimbursing you?

Every spring, it’s the same old story: tax return, boxes to tick, supporting documents to bring out… But behind this annual chore sometimes lies a pleasant surprise! If you paid a little too much tax in 2023 via withholding tax, the tax authorities will give it back to you today (without interest, or almost) .
In fact, the government deducts tax each month based on your income from the previous year. Except that your situation may have changed: the arrival of a child , expenses that qualify for a tax reduction, a drop in income, etc. The result: you’ve given too much, and the taxman owes you money. Pretty nice, right?
Who will receive this transfer on July 25?
It is estimated that between 10 and 15 million French people will benefit from this refund. Last year, the average amount was around €900 . A significant sum that can make a difference when your holiday budget is a bit tight.
Payment is expected to start on July 25th, directly into the bank account you provided to the tax authorities. If you haven’t provided a bank account statement , don’t panic: a check will be sent to your home. But be careful, remember to check that your bank details are up to date in your personal space on the impots.gouv.fr website , especially if you’ve changed banks recently!
