  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (or a small piece of fresh turmeric root)
  • 1 small onion, sliced (optional for stronger flavor)
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
  • 4-5 fresh guava leaves (or 1 tablespoon dried guava leaves)
  • 2 cups water
