These three signs may indicate a hotel to avoid

You’ve booked that charming little hotel for a romantic weekend or a well-deserved break. Onscreen, the photos promise comfort, warmth, and escape. But once you’re there, certain details can quickly make you regret your choice. And no, it’s not just a matter of dated decor or a breakfast without pastries… Sometimes your well-being, even your safety, is at stake.

Faulty lock: a warning sign not to be ignored

We rarely think to check our room door upon arrival. Yet, it’s often one of the first clues to a hotel’s reliability. A stuck lock, a wobbly handle, or worse, a door that doesn’t really close? These are the kinds of details that should immediately  raise red flags .

Why? Because a damaged lock isn’t just an invitation to a potential intruder… It could also complicate evacuation in an emergency. In short: if the door looks like it’s been forced open or poorly repaired, it’s better to  change establishments  than spend a night worrying. Before you even get out your toothbrush, test the lock. And if anything seems  off , demand a room change immediately.

Stained sheets: when comfort gives way to discomfort

Walking into a room and jumping on the bed is often our first instinct. But beneath the  seemingly clean sheets  , there’s sometimes another reality.  Suspicious stains , forgotten hairs,  damp patches … these are all signs that should raise an eyebrow—and potentially your suitcase.

These oversights can be a sign of poor housekeeping  , or even the presence of unwanted little creatures like bedbugs. These  tiny insects  can cause itching, allergies, and sometimes even find their way into your luggage for the return trip home.  A real problem!  To avoid this, inspect the mattress: if you see  small black spots or unusual  marks  , don’t take any risks.
