- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or whole milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar)
For the Apple Filling:
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Glaze:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
