Why do jeans have strange creases or ripples after washing?

We love stretch for its comfort, especially in skinny jeans or jeggings. But synthetic fibers like spandex don’t always react the same way as cotton when washed. Over time, they can deform, loosen, or shrink differently, creating that  wavy look  that often appears with repeated washes. The bottom line: comfort also means more delicate maintenance.

Too much laundry kills your shape

We’ve all tried to save time by  overloading  the washing machine. Bad idea for your jeans. If they’re squeezed between towels or thick sweatshirts, they no longer have the freedom to move properly. This creates creases, twists, and ultimately, deformations that can permanently imprint themselves on the fiber. The key:  give them enough space  !

The tumble dryer, friend or foe?

Tumble drying is quick, but sometimes drastic. Too much heat can set wrinkles and accentuate shrinkage. Not to mention the fibers become stiffer, losing their flexibility and softness. The solution? A gentler drying, or even  air drying , to preserve their shape and comfort.

6 tips for jeans that always look perfect

  • Wash in cold water to avoid shrinkage.
  • Turn it inside out before washing to limit friction.
  • Choose the delicate cycle and do not overload the drum.
  • Avoid high temperatures in the dryer, or better yet, opt for air drying.
  • Hang it by the belt or lay it flat for even drying.
  • A quick run with an iron upside down can remove any remaining waves.

Because well-maintained jeans  remain a lasting style ally  !
