Why You Shouldn’t Charge Your Phone Battery to 100%

Why you should avoid leaving it plugged in all night

It’s convenient, yes. But your phone doesn’t « sleep » during this time. Once it’s fully charged, it receives micro-injections of energy to keep it at 100%. This process, called  « trickle charging , » keeps the battery at a constant voltage… and generates continuous heat. The result? A battery that’s working uselessly for hours.

The ideal zone: between 20% and 80%

The “sweet spot” for your smartphone

Experts agree: lithium-ion batteries perform best and last best when they operate between 20% and 80% of their charge. In other words,  there’s no need to charge to 100% . It’s a bit like keeping a car between 30 and 110 km/h: that’s when it’s most efficient and consumes the least.

Good habits to adopt every day

  1. Don’t always charge « all the way »

Unplug your phone around 80%, especially if you don’t need to use it intensively right away.

  1. Avoid prolonged charges

At night,  use a programmable outlet  or activate an “optimized charge” option if your device allows it.

  1. Use a suitable charger

Original (or certified) chargers are designed to be battery-friendly.  Counterfeit models,  on the other hand, can quickly damage them.

  1. Avoid gaming or streaming while charging

These activities produce heat and force your battery to do double duty: charging while powering heavy tasks.

A change of habits that is worth it

By rethinking your charging habits, you can extend the health of your battery by months, even  years . And that’s good for your wallet… and the planet. No need to  obsess over the plug  : a few adjustments can make a difference.

Remember: the best charge is one that respects the natural rhythm of your battery.
