Jake frequently went to the lake to get away from the hectic world. It was one of his favorite spots, a peaceful area where he could unwind, fish, and take in the scenery.
In normal circumstances, he would spend hours at the lake without any interruptions. Although he had previously seen fish, birds, and the occasional frog in the area, he had never seen a snake come so close to him.
Observing the snake with a mix of bewilderment and worry, Jake remarked, “Never seen one come this close before.”
Mark nodded while continuing to stare at the snake. This isn’t how snakes usually behave in this area. There could be a problem.
The tranquil surroundings felt different now. The snake’s presence appeared to disturb the lake’s tranquility. Now there was a hint of doubt in the calm that Jake had grown accustomed to from his visits.
I saw a big black snake slithering toward me in the scorching heat. However, it simply stopped and raised its head without displaying any aggression. It was almost imploring.
I filled a glass with water and put it down slowly because something inside of me told me it would help. The snake drank from the glass, which shocked me.
I believed it to be a unique, serene moment—until Animal Control showed up. “You got lucky,” they said after glancing at you.
Safety and caution first
Mark handled the matter in a composed but somber manner. He recommended that they take a step back to allow the snake some room. Mark said in a calm and steady voice, “Jake, let’s back up a bit.”
Jake paused, uncertain of the snake’s motivations. Jake noted, “It’s not attacking.”
Mark didn’t waver. “It is irrelevant. Snakes can be erratic. It’s best to keep safe and give it some room.
Despite his interest, Jake took Mark’s advice and stepped back. Both of them watched the snake from a safe distance, anticipating how things would turn out. By now, it was obvious that the best course of action was to exercise caution.
A Tense and Inquisitive Moment
Jake was unable to suppress his curiosity and uneasiness. This was unlike anything he had ever experienced. In an attempt to lighten the situation, he joked, “You sound like my mom,” but Mark didn’t seem to get it.
