Why should you stop waking up to urinate?

Are you tired of those nights interrupted by frequent trips to the bathroom? Don’t worry, you’re far from alone. Getting up once or more to urinate may seem trivial, even inevitable. And yet, it could be disrupting your sleep more than you think… Especially REM sleep, which is so important for our mental and physical balance. So, why does this habit disrupt our nights so much, and how can you get back to truly restorative sleep? We’ll explain.

REM sleep, the unsung hero

This phase of sleep acts as a kind of  regulatory center  for our nights. It improves memory, stabilizes mood, and helps manage our emotions. In short, this is when our brain sorts things out.

But that’s not all: during REM sleep, our body produces an important hormone,  ADH (antidiuretic hormone) . Its role? To reduce urine production during the night, precisely to avoid… having to go to the bathroom.

The problem  : if our sleep is disturbed (stress, unstable habits, exposure to screens, etc.), this hormone is secreted in smaller quantities. As a result,  the bladder functions as it does during the day , forcing us to get out of bed.

Why getting up night after night is a bad idea
