1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×10 inches).
If using, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard or cream cheese over the surface of the pastry for added flavor.
3. Add the Fillings
Lay the ham slices evenly across the puff pastry, ensuring there’s no overlap.
Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the ham, spreading it evenly.
Add a sprinkle of herbs or black pepper if desired.
4. Roll and Slice
Starting from one long side, tightly roll the pastry into a log shape.
Slice the log into 8 equal pieces using a sharp knife.
5. Arrange and Egg Wash
Place the rolls flat-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece.
Brush the tops with beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish.
6. Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
7. Serve
Let the rolls cool slightly before serving warm.
