The Dough is Like a Cloud! Simple and Delicious Milk Bread

1. Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar.
Stir and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is activated.
2. Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, egg, and softened butter.
Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook and knead on medium speed for 5–7 minutes.
4. Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the Dough:
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 3–4 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a ball or shape into logs for a braided loaf.
Arrange the pieces in a greased loaf pan or on a lined baking sheet.
6. Second Rise:
Cover the shaped dough with a towel and let it rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until puffy.
7. Bake the Bread:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the dough with milk or the milk-honey mixture for a golden, glossy crust.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
8. Cool and Enjoy:
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature.
