Why You Shouldn’t Charge Your Phone Battery to 100%

You plug it in every night without thinking, telling yourself it’s better to leave with a 100% battery charge. But what if this innocuous routine is discreetly reducing your battery life? Behind this daily action lies a common smartphone trap. Here’s what experts recommend… and why you’ll never look at your charger the same way again.

Why is 100% charge too much?

Maximum voltage = maximum stress for the battery

Lithium-ion batteries, found in almost all our phones, hate extremes. When you charge them to 100%, you push them to their maximum voltage limit. This repeated stress wears down the battery prematurely, much like forcing a runner to sprint non-stop. The result:  shorter battery life .

Heat + full charge = losing combo

Charging to the end generates more heat, especially if you continue to use the phone while it is plugged in ( especially to watch series in bed ). However, heat is the sworn enemy of batteries: it accelerates their aging and reduces their efficiency.
